Theme

Active 08 flyer As 2008 is an Olympic year, Active 08 will focus on ‘high performance'. However, high performance does not only refer to elite sport, the conference program will also explore:

  • What makes an organisation a great organisation.
  • The design elements of a healthier, more active community.
  • Creating high performance recreation facilities through innovating programming, environmental sustainability and the use of technology.
  • Sport and recreation programs that produce positive outcomes such as crime prevention.
Conference Streams

In collaboration with Parks and Leisure (PLA), the Western Australian Sports Federation (WASF) and the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS), the Active 08 conference program will feature three breakout streams:

The Programming for Social Outcomes stream is in essence a two-day workshop that will focus on best practice sport and recreation programming to achieve social outcomes such as crime prevention. Professor Fred Coalter, perhaps the world’s pre-eminent researcher on sport and recreation programming for social outcomes, will host the workshop over the two days of the conference.
Active 08 will feature a stream dedicated to topics of relevance to facility managers and local government employees. Presentations will cover staffing, programming, technology and parks and urban design. The stream also includes case studies from regional centres in the Goldfield's and Pilbara regions.
This stream is suitable for coaches, development officers and management staff who work with sub-elite and elite programs e.g. State development squads and teams, as well as CEOs and staff working in "high performing" organisations.
The second morning of Active 08 will feature a mini-stream which will be of interest to those who are currently implementing workplace health and wellbeing programs as well as those who are hoping to implement a program in the future.
