The State government, through the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR), supports State sporting associations (SSAs) in their development and promotion of the sport in hosting national events in Western Australia. This support can be through consultancy advice and/or funding.
Rationale
The State government through the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) supports State sporting associations (SSAs) in their development and promotion of the sport in hosting national events in Western Australia. This support can be through consultancy advice and/or funding.
SSAs are encouraged to provide opportunities for their elite and sub-elite athletes to participate in national championships and other major events on their sporting calendar in their home state.
These guidelines are provided to assist SSAs when planning to host national events. Should you find that the event does not fit all of these guidelines, opportunities may be available from other departmental funding sources.
Funding Pool
The state government has provided a total of $150,000 per financial year for this purpose.
Criteria for Funding
DSR will consider support for national events in WA based on the following criteria:
- Only a recognised SSA may apply.
- The event is sanctioned by the national sporting organisation, and is open to all states and territories.
- The event is the pinnacle event for that competition in Australia.
- Applications are submitted on the prescribed form at least 6 months prior to the event.
- As a general rule only one event per SSA will be funded in each financial year, eg; 1 July - 30 June.
- The SSA can demonstrate the capacity to host a successful event.
- Hosting national events in regional areas will have a priority rating.
- Where international athletes can compete in national events in WA, higher funding levels may be considered.
- If the SSA has any outstanding DSR grant acquittals, this grant application may not be considered
Funding Levels
Funding will be determined on the merits of each application. As a general guide funding will be based on the profiles applied by DSR in the Organisational Sustainability Program (OSP) for SSAs that is:
- Profile 1 sports - up to $5,000
- Profile 2 sports - up to $10,000
