Description
Athletes require coaching which is commensurate with their individual ability and potential. One of the barriers confronting regional athletes has been the standard of available coaching.
State Sporting Associations are encouraged to initiate strategies to ensure talented athletes can access the required standard of coaching. This may be achieved at the 'pool side' in the region, or through opportunities in the metropolitan area. Specific initiatives may include: a coach mentor program, upskilling of local coaches, scholarships for both athletes and coaches to access opportunities.
Mentor coaching
Strategy
Provide high-performance coaching advice and support to academy coaches by an elite coach.
Description
In an effort to raise the standard of regional coaching, academy coaches need guidance in their delivery of quality training programs. In a partnership between the two coaches, the academy coach receives tuition, resources and mentoring. The mentor coach may also provide an overall coordinating role in the development of regional coaching and the delivery of coach accreditation.
Coach Assistance Program
Strategy
To provide financial assistance to regional coaches to access camps, competitions and accreditation opportunities.
Description
Regional coaches must travel extensively to attend and deliver training, competition and accreditation opportunities. Sports are encouraged to establish performance-based scholarships to reduce the cost burden on coaches. Initiatives that provide financial assistance tied to an annual training/competition schedule are desirable. The scholarship program may be tiered or graded to reflect the different levels of support and training required.
Coach education and training

Provide coach education and training to improve the standard of coaching to athletes.
Description
In an effort to improve the standard of coaching in regional areas, coaches must gain access to training and education in contemporary training methods and philosophies. Under this funding initiative coaches can access funds to support their progress through the NCAS.
