Dr Tye will bring together top Curtin researchers in various disciplines to work with the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) on the challenges facing sport and recreation in WA.

"I will be developing collaborations between industry practitioners and researchers from key areas including health, humanities, sustainability, science, business and Aboriginal studies," she said.

Dr Tye said research at the centre would focus on issues impacting sport and recreation such as climate change, water restrictions, health reform, technology uptake and social inclusion.

The CSRR, which was launched last year, is a partnership between the DSR and Curtin.

Curtin's Dean of Research for the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Roy Jones, said Dr Tye would offer a multi-disciplinary approach to the centre.

"Dr Tye brings with her a broad range of leadership skills and experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, mentoring, teamwork, networking and lobbying," Professor Jones said.

DSR's Strategic Policy, Planning and Research Director, Graham Brimage, said Dr Tye would lead research into major strategic issues impacting on sport and recreation in WA.

"Australia has a strong tradition in research associated with sport and recreation that has tended to focus on areas such as sports science, medicine, sports performance and sports management," Mr Brimage said.

"We look forward to working with Dr Tye on projects not covered by those traditional disciplines."

Prior to joining Curtin, Dr Tye was Director of Innovation Catalysts (Team Works Australasia Pty Ltd).

A senior academic, her research areas include entrepreneurship, business synergies and physical education and she has lectured in sport, health, recreation, physical education, arts and business.

In 2005, Dr Tye was honoured as one of the 10 leaders responsible for developing Technology Park, Bentley.
