DSR was nominated in the 'Award for Bicycle Friendly Business' category.

The department purchased five bicycles in 2008 for employees to use for business (commuting to and from meetings), recreational purposes (commuting to/from home) and in its Corporate Health & Wellbeing Program (cycling group and SPIN fitness class).

The bicycles were purchased as part of the DSR Travelsmart initiative, providing an environmentally friendly and sustainable transport option.

DSR Corporate Health and Wellbeing Coordinator Karen Smith said the bicycles had been met with keen interest from the department's employees.

"Cycling is known for its physical and mental benefits and provides an excellent platform for a healthy active workforce," Ms Smith said. "Participation for all, elite and amateur, is encouraged and supported by the DSR Corporate Health & Wellbeing Program."
