What is social capital? It refers to the features of social life that allow us to particiapte together more effectively in pursuit of shared objectives. It binds societies together through shared interests, social relations and a sense of common good.
Through sport and recreation players, coaches, spectators and volunteers form friendshps, sometimes across vastly different cultural boundaries, which often last a lifetime.
Parks, leisure centres and recreation services contribute to social capital by promoting well-being and happiness, close relationships, social support, purpose and hope.
