Apart from the unfair advantage over other competitors, there are health and legal implications for those who use performance enhancing drugs.

So far, WA has been comparatively free of cases in which athletes have used performance-enhancing drugs.

Through education, legislation and policy, the Western Australian Government is sending a clear message that the use of drugs in sport is unacceptabe.

The Western Australian Government's Drugs in Sport policy was developed in consultation with experts across the sports industry, including the Department of Sport and Recreation, the WA Institute of Sport, Sports Medicine Australia (WA) and representatives of State sporting associations.

The policy clearly sets out the Government's position on drug use in sport, detailing the role and obligations of State sporting associations to their competitors, coaches and administrators.

The State Government condemns the use of banned performance-enhancing substances and other doping and drug-taking in sport and recreation.
