Broken ankle won't stop Matt

Bassendean local, Matt Brazier, is busy showing the state his skateboarding talents aren’t just for show. Matt, aged 19, has competed in two rounds of the YMCA HQ’s Summer Skate Series and has placed in the top two in the Open Division at both competitions. His talents in the Series have won him prizes from Folklore Skateboards and Bossen.

Matt Brazier, 19, came 1st in the Open Division at the YMCA HQ qualifying round.Matt has only returned to skating in the last few weeks after a badly injured ankle sidelined him for a number of months. Matt shattered his ankle when he came off his skateboard on the Half Pipe at the Bayswater Skate Park earlier this year.

The YMCA HQ’s Summer Skate Series is supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation and aims to increase skate park usage by local youth. The series also creates sporting pathways for participants by allowing the opportunity to compete in local, state and national skateboarding events.

Placegetters of each qualifying round of the series are eligible to compete at the Championship Event at YMCA HQ on Saturday 13 February 2010. Matt will be representing Bassendean at the State Finals after placing second in the Open Division of the Bassendean qualifying round and first at the YMCA HQ qualifying round of the series.

The series runs until February 2010 and visits nine metropolitan and regional Skate Parks across Western Australia. Skaters of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate across all four divisions, 15 & under boys/girls, 18 & under boys, 18 & under girls and Open (includes sponsored skaters).
