Behind every good athlete, there's bound to be a good coach. Coaches play a vital role in the physical and emotional wellbeing of athletes, drawing on years of experience as an athlete, in a mentoring role, or just simply as a local community member keen to lend a helping hand.
Coaches have to be aware of the latest trends in diet, training methods and motivation techniques.
The Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) provides coaches with a wide range of resources, including training clinics and access to the latest research, to ensure they can keep WA athletes ahead of the pack. Many of the training clinics are also targeted at local community coaches who require the basic skills to create a fun and safe environment for children to be active.
In 2009 the Coaching Reference Panel was developed. The panel consists of up to 12 members who are appointed for three-year terms and represent a wide cross section of sports, including team, individual and high and low-profile sports.
Sports Accreditation Online is the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) online information management system for national sporting organisations and currently accredited coaches and officials.
