Local legends in your club

Local legends all over Western Australia contribute by building stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities.

The Local Legends campaign is a DSR initiative aiming to highlight the value of local sport and recreation clubs to the community, and more specifically the volunteers who run these clubs. We call these people 'Legends'.

We all lead busy lives, but behind every successful club are those special people who so generously give their time week in and week out. From the mum who takes her kids to the game, the linesman, the canteen assistant, the coach and the referee to the club secretary, these Local Legends deserve recognition.

The contribution these volunteers make to their communities is so important. Research shows that sport and recreation in a group setting has the power to bring communities together, improve personal mental health outcomes, maximise the education potential of our children and reduce anti-social behaviour. Put simply, sport and recreation builds stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities.

Building stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities

They take the kids to training and the game, they wash the teams jumpers, they volunteer in the canteen, cater for special events or they fill a role at their local club, taxi their kids around and they still find the time to cheer them on from the sidelines...Legend Mums!
