Organised Recreational Activity and Mental Health
Research commissioned by the Department of Sport and Recreation indicates that people who participate in sports clubs and organised recreational activity:
- enjoy better mental health
- are more alert
- are more resilient against the stresses of modern living
This is because participation in recreational groups and socially supported physical activity can reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
Speakers:
Dr Jonothan Laughame - Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry, University of Western Australia
Associate Professor Ray James - Mentally Healthy WA, Curtin University
John Welborn - former Wallaby and Western Force Rugby Union player
