Opportunity for five people to attend women in sport conference

Through the provision of professional development opportunities, the Department of Sport and Recreation is investing in the future of sport and recreation leaders. The latest opportunity on offer will see five people working with women in sport to attend the International Working Group (IWG) World Conference on Women and Sport in Sydney in May 2010.

Female volleyballer.The conference is a vehicle for participants to share experiences, strengthen international connections and find ways to stimulate action at local, national and international levels.

Those selected to attend are required to bring back what you have learnt from the international conference to the Western Australian sport and recreation industry, particularly information regarding the growth of women in sport.

Topics covered at the conference will include Women, sport and human rights, Financing and media for gender equality in sport, Physical activity and health for women, Sport and social change,  and Engaging Generation Y and Z  in sport and physical activity.

Conference dates and venues:

The 5th World Conference on Women and Sport will be held from 20 to 23 May 2010 in Sydney, Australia.

The main conference venue will be the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre located in Darling Harbour, a deepwater cove of Sydney Harbour.  The Darling Harbour area is Sydney's most exciting tourism precinct, located on the waterfront within walking distance of the heart of the city.

The final day of the conference will be held in Sydney Olympic Park, home to the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  This final day also features a Women's Sports Festival celebrating women's participation and achievement in sport.
