The Sportsfun program has just become more accessible and easy to implement within schools and classes, with its new online manual. The new manual has been developed with the assistance of officers at the Curriculum Council, and provides all relevant information on the Sportsfun program, ranging from the program itself to course PowerPoints and handouts.

The program has traditionally run within the school system involving secondary school students becoming trained in Sportsfun Level 0 and later being accredited in Sportsfun General Principles Coaching and/or Officiating where they are given the responsibility to coach primary school students in modified sport.

However, the program is flexible and there are different Sportsfun models. Secondary and Primary Schools as well as community groups can adapt the program to meet their needs as long as the program retains its central philosophies of:

  • Development of young people’s health, social and life skills through sport;
  • Access to quality, fun, developmental sporting opportunities for primary school aged children;
  • Satisfies certain teaching unit content required by the Curriculum Council;
  • Development and strengthening of links between primary, secondary schools and community organisations;
  • Development of youth volunteer coaches capable of conducting junior sport programs in their communities;
  • Development of leadership qualities of high school students; and
  • Provide pathways to future coaching and officiating accreditations.

In WA, through the Department of Sport and Recreation, more than 40,000 primary school children and 6000 secondary school students from over 400 secondary and 700 primary schools, have participated in Sportsfun since 1987.

So if you are looking for a program that motivates your students, gets them involved in coaching and officiating and teachers them about leadership at the same time as satisfying teaching requirements, register your details or contact the Youth Team.
