What we do
The department provides leadership, advice and funding for the sport and recreation industry in Western Australia.
Sport and recreation is more than winning. It makes an important positive contribution to society. Recent research indicates that participation in sport and recreation builds stronger and safer communities, healthier and happier people, and can even improve educational outcomes for our children.
To maximise these outcomes, the departments role is to create the context for participation. This context includes great facilities and well-run sport and recreation organisations.
It is important that these facilities and organisations are available to all Western Australians, no matter their background or physical abilities.
The department reaches across the community to a wide range of audiences, including sports organisations and clubs, recreation groups and agencies, state and federal government departments, non-government agencies and private industry.
